These Celebrities Are Winning At Halloween

Access to the best makeup artists and clothing designers has its perks, especially when it comes to Halloween! The holiday also brings out a different side to people. You may not think of these stars as the type who would dress up for laughs, or to scare the living you-know-what out of you, but they do. And we’re so, so glad they did. Check out these stars who went all out for Halloween.

Khloe Kardashian

In 2016, Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Khloe Kardashian and boyfriend Tristan Thompson dressed up as Storm and Black Panther for Halloween. The reality star went all out with the costume. She wore silver makeup and contact lenses to embody the X-Men character as well as a skintight latex suit. Not everyone liked her look, believing she didn’t stay true to the character. Others thought she paled in comparison to Beyonce, who dressed up as the superhero in the past. Yet, the look made headlines and got people talking. She didn’t create the costume all by herself — a stylist helped with the transformation.

Emily Ratajkowski

Halloween is often a time for women to wear sexy clothes without feeling embarrassed by flaunting a bit of flesh. Yet some celebrities go in the opposite direction. Model Emily Ratajkowski decided to dress as Marge Simpson from The Simpsons in 2015. She was one of the guests at Heidi Klum’s infamous Halloween party. Emily painted her skin yellow and donned a giant blue wig to achieve the look. She also wore Marge’s signature red beads and shoes with a strapless dress. We have no doubt that Simpsons creator Matt Groening would have approved of the look. She nailed it.

Martha Stewart, 2016

Martha Stewart may be the lifestyle queen, but she is also the heir to the Halloween queen throne (behind Heidi Klum). She attended a party in New York’s West Village in 2016 as a creepy nurse. The party’s theme was “Prince On Prince” in honor of the late singer Prince and visual artist Richard Prince. Martha’s dress was an homage to Richard Prince’s famous nurse paintings. We have to give Martha a lot of credit for committing to her costume 100 percent. The red eyes and fake blood dripping down her face really made the look. Creepy nurse, indeed!

Kim Kardashian

Reality star Kim Kardashian is another celebrity who loves celebrating Halloween. Choosing the right look is very important for the star, and in 2014 she revealed to fans “Look #1 – Skeleton” on Instagram. Kim wore a skintight bodysuit in which bones were painted on with white paint. She wore ghoulish makeup on her face to complete the look. Kim is not afraid of baring all, so it was no surprise that she chose to wear a hip-hugging bodysuit that left little to the imagination. And skeletons are such a classic costume, so you really can’t go wrong.

Rihanna

Pop star Rihanna stepped out with a bunch of friends in New York City in 2014 dressed as one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It was difficult to recognize the singer, who went to Opus nightclub with her pals to celebrate the holiday. Rihanna painted her body green and wore a red eye mask to portray Raphael. She wore a green and gold catsuit that showed off her cleavage, making her one of the sexiest ninja turtles anyone has ever seen. She also donned gladiator heels, elbow-length gloves, and a turtle shell to complete the look. She carried the sai as her weapon of choice.

Ariana Grande & Mac Miller

Singer Ariana Grande and her boyfriend Mac Miller owned Halloween in 2016 by dressing up as Trinity and Neo from the famous “Matrix” movies. Miller captioned their pic on Instagram with a quote from the film: “This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill – you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.” They also dressed as characters from Pokemon Go and Wes Anderson’s film “Moonrise Kingdom” that year.

Heidi Klum

Model Heidi Klum appears on this list several times because she is such a master of Halloween. During her 14th annual Halloween party in New York City in 2013, she dressed up like an old woman. The model was unrecognizable in the costume, which featured wrinkles, age spots, and legs with varicose veins. Even though she was 40, she looked 80! Like Neil Patrick Harris, she takes the holiday very seriously and makes a big effort when planning her costume each year. She once insisted she’d “rather stay home than go out in an uninspired costume.” Call us inspired!

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is no slouch when it comes to Halloween costumes. In 2011 she impressed fans with her interpretation of supervillain Poison Ivy. She wrote on Twitter: “Glamming up for my Midori Halloween party at Lavo tonight! I have bright red hair! OMG this is kray!” She had a bit of help from Hollywood makeup artists Joyce Bonelli and Rob Scheppy. She wore a red wig and a dress made of sparkling green leaves to play the DC Comics character. Uma Thurman famously played Poison Ivy in the 1997 film “Batman & Robin.” We think Kim did an excellent job making the look her own.

Beyonce & Jay Z

The couple that dresses in Halloween costumes together, stays together. Singers Beyonce and Jay Z, alongside daughter Blue Ivy, dressed as Barbie and Ken in 2016. Beyonce wore a striped black and white bodysuit with a bright pink fur jacket. A high ponytail and red lipstick completed the look. She was joined by her hubby, who sported a black tuxedo with silver bow tie. He topped off the look with a bouffant wig. Their daughter wore a leather jacket with “Barbie” emblazoned on the back. The stars appeared at a party in boxes, and they cocked their heads just like the iconic dolls.

Miley Cyrus

In 2015, singer Miley Cyrus and her friend dressed up as a tooth and the Tooth Fairy. There’s something very simple yet creative about their costumes. She posted a photo of the two of them on Instagram, linking arms. Miley wore white tights with a simple fabric “tooth” dress. She pulled her hair back in a headband. Her friend wore fairy wings with a fairy crown. The great thing about this kind of costume is that it’s not too hard to put together, and it won’t be uncomfortable to wear at a party or club. Miley knew what she was doing when she came up with that idea!

Martha Stewart, 1998

Showing her sense of humor, Martha Stewart showed up to Bette Midler’s 2nd Annual Halloween Ball in 1998 dressed like a bodyboarder. Not only did she don a full suit wetsuit (those get toasty pretty quickly when worn indoors!) she brought with her two body boards to show she’s ready to paddle out. A far cry from the creepy nurse outfit, you can tell Martha can’t hold back the laughs as she makes her way through the party at Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

Tom Brady & Gisele Bundchen

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and his supermodel wife Gisele Bundchen channeled “The Wizard of Oz” for Halloween in 2013. Gisele dressed up as Dorothy, complete with a short gingham dress and socks that covered up her knees. She pulled back her blonde hair into pigtails. Her hubby wore a cowardly lion costume. Gisele posted a photo of the two of them on Twitter, writing: “Having fun with my Lion last night!” The couple attended a costume party in Boston without their children. Even though Halloween is traditionally a holiday for kids, adults have just as much fun dressing up each year.

Kelly Ripa & Nick Lachey

In 2011, Kelly Ripa and Nick Lachey, who was standing in for Regis Philbin, dressed up as Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries on their wedding day. The reality mogul and the NBA player tied the knot that August and a grand spectacle that, of course, aired on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. As such, Ripa and Lachey decided to dress up as the newlyweds for the Halloween edition of their talk show, but it couldn’t have come at a more awkward time. The next day on November 1, 2011, Kardashian and Humphries announced their divorce, ending their notorious 72-day marriage.

Katy Perry

In case you couldn’t already tell, Katy Perry veers away from sexy and aims for original in her Halloween costumes. In 2016, the pop star dressed up as then-Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. Perry pulled all the stops for this one, going so far as to utilize prosthetics to look scarily similar to the former first lady. Clinton reacted to photos of Perry’s costumes with good humor, telling Extra, “Oh my — look at that! This is shocking — oh, my gosh. This is great! She could be me when we finish the campaign.” Perry was a strong supporter of Clinton during the 2016 Presidential Election.

Cher

Singer Cher has been known throughout the decades to don some of the most outrageous outfits on the red carpet and otherwise — even during times when it wasn’t Halloween. But for Halloween of 1988, Cher showed up to the party dressed as Cleopatra and we must say, she did an excellent job with her execution. From the intricate dress to the even more impressive headdress, Cher most likely impressed everyone at the Halloween party that year. Of course, they probably weren’t surprised when she showed up with the most eye-catching costume of the night.

Iggy Azalea

Australian rapper Iggy Azalea took Halloween 2013 by storm when she showed up to the Vevo Halloween party dressed as Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmations. Everything about Azalea’s look is impeccable and although she didn’t wear Cruella’s iconic black dress with a white, fur coat, we’re sure that this would be an outfit the villainess would wear in the modern day. With her half-black and half-white ‘do, Azalea looks incredibly convincing with this costume and even brought a real-life dalmatian for a special effect! However, we’re sure that she wouldn’t have harmed the adorable pup one bit.

Harrison Ford & Calista Flockhart

Actor Harrison Ford and his wife always do the best couple costumes, in case you couldn’t already tell with the “hip-pea” costume you saw earlier on. Here, they’re dressed as a geriatric couple, but we like to think that they look more like the couple from the Pixar film, Up. He’s already well into his seventies, but without the costume, you probably wouldn’t even be able to tell—which either goes to show how youthful Ford is in real life, or how good he is at making his costumes authentic. Harrison Ford, Again

Here, Harrison Ford is dressed up as a nun. Don’t be mistaken by Ford’s less-than-enthusiastic facial expression. We think that he’s probably sporting a serious attitude because after all, he’s supposed to be a nun. As a celebrity, Ford can probably afford to sport high-quality costumes and special effects makeup or he can just take the easy route and wear his wardrobe from one of his movies (Han Solo or Indiana Jones, anyone?). But we commend Ford for his originality and the DIY-quality that you see in all his costumes. If anything, Harrison Ford should be considered the unsung King of Halloween.

Matthew Morrison

Glee’s Matthew Morrison hosted a Halloween party in West Hollywood in 2010. Morrison showed up to his own affair dressed as none other than fitness guru Richard Simmons. To achieve this look, Morrison sported Simmons’ iconic head of curly hair and super short spandex shorts. The party itself was a lowkey star-studded event, with guests such as Christina Aguilera, Lauren Conrad, Chad Michael Murray, and of course, all of Morrison’s Glee co-stars. We can’t help but wonder what Simmons thought of the look, but considering his generally sunny disposition, he probably would have loved it.

Isla Fisher

Someone dressed up as a sock monkey and that someone later revealed themselves to be actress Isla Fisher. We bet no one at that time expected her to be underneath the somewhat-creepy sock monkey head! In 2012, Fisher and husband Sacha Baron Cohen went out in full-body costumes, making them pretty much unrecognizable. Baron Cohen dressed up in a cow costume with a gorilla ski mask, for some reason. Either way, the costumes were comedic and unconventional and it only goes to show that the beautiful actress has a great sense of humor—after all, she’s married to the guy who played Borat.

Seal

We’re not entirely sure what is going on here, but in case you couldn’t tell, this is singer Seal attending one of his then-wife’s annual Halloween bashes. And of course, as the husband of the host, why wouldn’t he dress up in an other-worldly costume, right? Our best guess is that Seal is supposed to be a metal man or maybe a robot. We suppose it’s appropriate that Seal is pictured here by himself, since unfortunately, the couple divorced in 2014. But soon, you’ll see one of their best couple costumes from when they were still together!

Tyga & Kylie Jenner

In 2014, when they were still a hot-button couple surrounded by controversy over their age difference (among other things), rapper Tyga and then-girlfriend Kylie Jenner dressed up as Chucky and Bride of Chucky. Tyga’s costume, we’ll admit, is pretty impressive, since he went out of his way to get Chucky’s outfit and his crazy red hair. He even splattered blood all over his face! Kylie’s costume is admittedly pretty impressive, too, although she could have gone the extra mile by wearing a blonde wig and adding a beauty mark above her lip. “Kyga,” as they were called, broke up in 2017 and Kylie is rumored to be pregnant with current beau, Travis Scott.

Matt Lauer

In 2013, the hosts of Today paid homage to Baywatch for their Halloween special. Matt Lauer dressed up as Pamela Anderson, which he said took 30 minutes to accomplish with hair, makeup, and prosthetics. Of the look, Lauer told Ellen DeGeneres, “It was supposed to be a tribute to Pamela Anderson. I look more like Dee Snider with fake boobs! It’s not a great look.” When Pamela Anderson saw pictures of Lauer dressed in her likeness, she told Today, “Matt, he’s sexy in a red swimsuit! I’ve seen that… You know you’ve made it when you’re a Halloween costume.”

Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum is the queen of Halloween. She spends a lot of time and energy on her costumes each year. In 2011, she went as a dead body stripped of its skin. She told the MailOnline: “It’s kind of like a dead body with the first layer of skin ripped off. It’s basically like me naked.” She achieved the look by airbrushing her body with drawings that mimic the inside of a cadaver. The artist painstakingly drew on her skin and a skull cap that the model wore on her head. Heidi also wore red contact lenses and “rotted” teeth.

Neil Patrick Harris & Family

Neil Patrick Harris, his husband David Burtka, and their kids consider Halloween to be a very important holiday. In 2013, they decided to dress up as the characters from The Munsters. Their twins Gideon and Harper appear to be equally as excited to dress the part every year. It was their second set of costumes that year. They also dressed up as the characters from Alice in Wonderland. In 2016, during an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Neil explained that his family takes the holiday “very seriously.” We’re glad that they do because we love to see what creative costumes they come up with each year.

Halle Berry

Halle Berry and her daughter Nahla dressed as skeletons in 2016. She shared a photo on Instagram, captioning the pic: “Our costumes are really killin’ it this year, don’t you think?” Berry wore a costume that showed off her “bones,” and her offspring wore a similar suit. In addition to the body-hugging costume, Berry wore a curly, long red wig. Makeup artist Lottie S helped the actress achieve the skull-like face using black and white paint. The whole effect was rather dramatic and very impressive. It would definitely be spooky to encounter her skeleton while trick or treating!

Dwayne Johnson

Some stars need to do very little when they dress up for Halloween because they already resemble the characters they’re portraying. Take Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. In 2012, he wore a Hulk costume. He captioned the pic: “Don’t make angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry” ~ The People’s Hulk #HappyHalloween.” Since The Rock already has huge muscles, it wasn’t a stretch for him to cover himself up in some green paint and dress up like the Marvel character. We can’t help but wonder what Mark Ruffalo thought of his Hulk impression? Our only complaint is the wig, which makes him look a little funny.

Ed Sheeran

Singer Ed Sheeran couldn’t have picked a better costume in 2014. He opted to go as Austin Powers, and the resemblance was uncanny. He captioned the pic, “Yeah, baby!” and did a spectacular impression of the swinging ’60s spy, whom Mike Myers played on the big screen. Sheeran achieved the look by wearing glasses with thick black frames, a blue velvet jacket, and a white shirt with frilly sleeves. He didn’t have to do anything with his hair since it nearly matched the character’s already. He told fans he wouldn’t wear it while performing because “the frills get tangled up in my guitar.”

Gigi Hadid

Model Gigi Hadid turned heads at Heidi Klum’s annual Halloween party in 2015 for her amazing resemblance to Olivia Newton-John as Sandy Olsson from Grease. Hadid nailed the look with skintight leather pants and a black off-the-shoulder blouse. Plus, the curly hair was spot on. She achieved the look with a little help from stylist Monica Rose, who also helps the Kardashians. Gigi brought the costume to life by wearing a leather jacket and using a cigarette as an accessory. She matched her red lips to her Louis Vuitton high heels. The look was impeccable and very sexy!

Heidi Klum

In 2015, Heidi Klum decided to dress as the sexy, voluptuous animated character Jessica Rabbit. The model spent several days working with a prosthetic team to get the exact look that she wanted. She posted teaser images on Instagram, and many thought she was going as Kim Kardashian! But when the mother of four made her final reveal, fans were entranced. Heidi was absolutely unrecognizable as the fictional siren. Heidi loves the holiday, and she once told People magazine: “In our house, it’s Halloween all year round.” Her annual Halloween party is one of Hollywood’s most anticipated events each year.

Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford is one of Hollywood’s beloved stars. Who doesn’t love the man who played Han Solo and Indiana Jones? The actor also loves dressing up even when he’s not filming a movie. He doesn’t hold back when it comes to Halloween, and each year people eagerly wait to see what he’ll come up with next. In 2008, he inexplicably wore a peapod suit. His wife, Calista Flockhart, dressed up as a hippie, while Ford decided to embody a vegetable. It’s unclear why he chose that particular costume, but fans were thrilled by the bizarre choice. Kudos to Ford for his creativity.

Katy Perry

Pop star Katy Perry also enjoys dressing up on Halloween. One year she and her boyfriend Orlando Bloom attended a party as Bill and Hillary Clinton. In 2015, she came up with a particularly inventive costume. She posted an image of herself on Instagram dressed as a microphone, lying on the floor. She captioned the pic: “Drops mic on your Halloween.” People were definitely impressed by this creative costume, which looks spot-on as a mic (since there’s nothing worse than people asking you, ‘what are you?’) Way to go, Katy!

Fergie

When Fergie attended Heidi Klum’s Halloween Party in 2011, she decided to come dressed up as a contestant from Toddlers & Tiaras. Fergie even went to a designer Marco Marco to make the costume, who said, “It’s completely encrusted in Swarovski crystal, as are the shoes. The pink Teddy bear doubles as her purse. And the crown was customized to match the dress.” Fergie looks stunning, even though she’s technically supposed to be dressed up as a child (which we’ll admit is a little weird). However, it is Halloween, so everyone is at liberty to be as weird as they want with their costumes!

Katy Perry, Again

In 2014, Katy Perry showed up to Kate Hudson’s Halloween bash in Los Angeles dressed up as a Flamin’ Hot Cheeto. You can bet that Perry didn’t have to worry about someone showing up in the same concert because Perry is probably the only one who would think of something like that (especially since most female celebs at the party opted for a sexy costume). Perry is dressed in full Cheeto fashion, wearing all red underneath her Cheeto suit. She accessorized appropriately with a Hot Cheeto purse and red lips. Katy Perry has publicly expressed her preference for the snack, so it’s only appropriate that she chose that costume.

Adam Lambert

American Idol alum Adam Lambert showed up to a 2013 event in Los Angeles dressed up as a genie. It’s just one of the Halloween costumes he debuted that year and we must say that Lambert deserves a round of applause for his execution of a genie. Not only did he paint his entire face and torso blue, his legs are also painted blue if you couldn’t tell (or he could be wearing blue tights, however, we’d like to think he put 100% effort in this). The peacock inspired genie outfit is impressive too and further emphasizes the exoticness of his costume.

Heidi Klum & Seal

We know we already mentioned their split, but we couldn’t not include this couples costume on this list! Back when they were still together in 2011, Heidi Klum and Seal showed up to her party in 2011 dressed as primates. The incredibly realistic costumes make the model and the singer completely unrecognizable, especially due to the impressive face makeup. Klum even went so far as to add prosthetic breasts to her costume to indicate that she was female. We can only imagine how long it took to put these costumes together! It’s clear that Ms. Klum takes Halloween seriously, as we have one more incredible Klum costume to show you coming up.

Nick Cannon

Back in 2008, Nick Cannon dressed up as a milk carton for Halloween. Notice the question “got cookies?” across the front of his costume? Well, at that time Cannon did have cookies. This is actually just one half of a couples costume and his then-wife, pop star Mariah Carey, dressed up in a cute-but-sexy chocolate chip cookie outfit. Cannon and Carey were still in the honeymoon phase at that time because that year they had just gotten married. After having twins and six years of marriage, Nick Cannon filed for divorce in 2014 after they had already separated. Talk about milk gone sour…

Adam Levine

This is Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine dressed up as John McClane fromthe Die Hard film series. He attended a Halloween bash in 2010 hosted by his band and Bacardi and was certainly there to impress. Levine’s interpretation of Bruce Willis’ iconic character is arguably sexier some gals might say, but we’ll just say that we got to give him credit for how much he looks like that despite the amount the amount of grittiness he put into this costume. This is just one of the more impressive costumes Levine has debuted, but in recent years you’ll see him in a couples costume with wife Behati Prinsloo.

One More For Heidi Klum

Back in 2008, Heidi Klum came to her party dressed up as the Hindu goddess of destruction, Kali. Klum went all out, going so far as to make herself completely blue and even sporting a costume with extra arms, as Kali is often depicted in such a way. However, this costume did not come without criticism as Klum offended many people of the Hindu community. The TImes of India reported that the Hindu leaders of America demanded an apology from Klum, although it never came. Let this be a lesson to you readers: it’s probably best to steer away from appropriating other cultures just for the sake of Halloween.

Colton Haynes

Actor Colton Haynes, who stars on Arrow, wowed everyone on Halloween 2014 when he dressed up as the ogre version of Princess Fiona from Shrek. The costume was nothing short of amazing and we have to applaud Haynes for his audacity and sense of humor. He did have tons of help from prosthetics and makeup artists, who helped Haynes achieve what he quoted as his “dream costume.” The following year, Haynes outdid himself when he dressed up as Ursula from The Little Mermaid. Haynes is a newer name in Hollywood, but he has already proven himself to be a serious player when it comes to Halloween.

Amy Schumer

Comedic actress Amy Schumer and her boyfriend Ben Hanisch dressed up as Dustin and Eleven from Netflix’s hit show Stranger Things for Halloween of 2016. That year, Stranger Things took pop culture by storm and is certainly a cult classic among those who watch it. With that said, Schumer’s costume choice was very appropriate for the times and she and Hanisch pulled it off in the cutest way. Having her boyfriend dress up as Eleven was even more perfect since he is the one with a shaved head, which Eleven sports in the first season of the show.
