On-Screen Love Interests Who Made It Work In The Real World

I don’t know how every on-screen couple isn’t in love in real life. Good actors make movie romance look convincing, but sometimes all of that love is less acting and more genuine chemistry.

All of these couples played love interests on TV or in a movie. They brought their real love to the screen, or they brought their screen love into reality. Keep reading to see if your favorite celebrity couple got their start as fictional lovers.

Rose Leslie And Kit Harrington

Rose Leslie and Kit Harrington played love interests on the hit HBO show Game of Thrones. Kit plays Jon Snow, Ned Stark’s bastard son with a secret past. Leslie was Ygritte, the young, beautiful wildling who captured Jon’s heart.

Although Ygritte (spoilers) doesn’t make it, Rose and Kit lived happily ever after. The couple got married and invited all of their Game of Thrones co-stars to the ceremony.

Paul Dano And Zoe Kazan

Zoe Kazan and Paul Dano have been in a relationship since 2007. They’re something of a Hollywood power couple. They met while performing in a play, and they’ve been making movies and magic ever since.

In 2012, Zoe and Paul released their film Ruby Sparks. Zoe wrote a film about a writer whose fictional dream girl comes to life. She plays the dream girl, Ruby, and Dano plays the writer who dreamed her into existence.

Blake Lively And Ryan Reynolds

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds starred opposite each other in Green Lantern in 2010. Ryan was married to Scarlett Johanson at the time, and Blake was dating Penn Badgley.

Their chemistry was clear from the beginning. Now they’re married, and they have two children. This is truly a Hollywood couple for the ages.

Ben Affleck And Jennifer Garner

Ben and Jennifer (or Bennifer 2.0) met on the set of Pearl Harbor in 2000. Then they went their separate ways. Ben struck up a relationship with the other Jennifer (Lopez, that is), but that wasn’t built to last.

Ben says that he and Jennifer Garner fell in love on the set of Daredevil. That relationship wasn’t built to last either though. The pair got divorced in 2017, but they had a good run (and a few kids).

Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally

Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman played love interests on Will and Grace and Parks and Rec. Before they were Mr. and Mrs. Ron Swanson, they got married in real life.

They had a secret wedding disguised as a pre-Emmy party. These two are literally #couplegoals. I want them to adopt me.

Dax Shepard And Kristen Bell

Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell played boyfriend and girlfriend in the 2012 film Hit and Run. They got married in 2013, and now they have two children together.

Apparently, they briefly broke up before they got married, but everything worked out in the end, so it’s all good.

Channing Tatum And Jenna Dewan Tatum

Channing and Jenna met on the set of Step Up in 2006. They fell madly in love, got married, and had a daughter named Everly.

In April 2018, the pair announced that they were separating. We were shocked and upset that their 12-year relationship was coming to an end. Honestly, we’re still not over it.

Mila Kunis And Ashton Kutcher

Mila and Ashton met on the set of That ’70s Show. They didn’t get together romantically until several years after the show ended, though. Jackie and Kelso had a bit of a rocky relationship, but Mila and Ashton are smooth as silk.

They have two children, and they’re winning at life.

Miley Cyrus And Liam Hemsworth

Miley and Liam played a love interest in the Nicholas Sparks film The Last Song. I’d just like to add thatThe Last Song is a pretty underrated Nicholas Sparks movie. It’s not as iconic as The Notebook, but it’s way better than all the other ones.

Miley and Liam have been together, engaged, broken up, and together again. They’re a bit of a mystery, but we still love them together.

Nina Dobrev And Ian Somerhalder

Nina and Ian played Elena and Damon, a steamy vampire couple on The Vampire Diaries. Theystarted dating in 2011 while filming the TV series.

Fans shipped Ian and Nina hard until they broke up in May 2013. Actually, I think fans are still shipping them, even though it’s officially over. Ian is now married to Nikki Reed, and they have a daughter together.

Emma Stone And Andrew Garfield

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield played Gwen Stacy and Spiderman respectively in The Amazing Spider-Man. Although they were in relationships with other people during filming, they were both single while they were promoting the film.

They were officially a couple until 2015. Although they broke up, they’re still on good terms.

Angelina Jolie And Brad Pitt

Angelina and Brad met on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Brad was still married to Jennifer Aniston at the time, and it’s still unclear whether Brad cheated on Jen with Angelina, or if Brangelina waited until Brad was officially divorced.

Either way, karma came back to haunt them and now Brad and Angelina are no longer together.

Lea Michelle And Cory Montieth

Lea and Cory played high school love interests on Glee. Cory was Finn, the jock turned sensitive singer, and Lea was Rachel Berry, the slightly annoying, nerdy star of the glee club.

Lea and Cory were very much in love in real life. Unfortunately, Montieth died of a drug overdose before they could live happily ever after. Lea is now engaged and is living her life to the fullest.

Eva Mendes And Ryan Gosling

Eva and Ryan are a pretty private couple. They met on the set of the 2012 drama The Place Beyond the Pines. In the movie, they play a turbulent couple who have a son together.

In real life, Eva and Ryan have two daughters. How are they so perfect, though?

Nicole Kidman And Tom Cruise

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise first met each other on the set of the 1990 film, Days of Thunder. Cruise played Cole Trickle, a young race car driver out to make a name for himself in NASCAR, and Kidman played Dr. Claire Lewicki, a neurosurgeon who develops a relationship with Cole.

Tom and Nicole took their relationship off the screen into the real world. They got married, but then they split up in 2001.

Amanda Seyfried And Dominic Cooper

Amanda Seyfried dated her Mamma Mia! co-star Dominic Cooper for three years. They played young lovers on a Greek beach — how could you not fall in love?

Unfortunately, Dominic ended up breaking Amanda’s heart. It’s hard to keep a relationship going when you’re not living in a movie. Seyfried has said that falling in love on set is “one of the easiest things in the world. You’re put in a situation where you have to make out with each other. It’s easy for things to get carried away.”

Heath Ledger And Michelle Williams

Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams played a married couple in Brokeback Mountain. They didn’t really have the love story of the century in that movie (that title is reserved for Jack and Ennis), but they did make it work off-screen.

The couple had a daughter together who they named Matilda, but unfortunately, Heath Ledger passed away in 2008.

Vanessa Hudgens And Zac Effron

Vanessa and Zac played Gabriella and Troy in High School Musical. Obviously, they started dating in real life. How could you not after pretending to be in love like that?

Sadly, they broke up in 2010. They were soaring, flying, and now they’re walking their separate ways.

Richard Burton And Elizabeth Taylor

Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor met on the set of Cleopatra in the early ’60s. They were both married at the time, but once they kissed on-screen, they couldn’t stop kissing. They also couldn’t stop getting married and divorced and married again.

Is it any surprise that these two had chemistry from the very beginning?

Winona Ryder And Johnny Depp

Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp dated for four years during the ’90s. They starred together in the 1990 film, Edward Scissorhands.

Although this romance is long over, and both parties have been romantically linked to other people since the ’90s, we’re still not over Johnny and Winona. These two are what ’90s dreams are made of.
