Some people need a little convincing to ride the more extreme attractions at theme parks. But how bad would you feel if you talked your buddy into trying The VertiGo, only to have the ride break while you’re up 300 feet in the air, climbing at a rate of 50 mph? That’s what could have happened at Cedar Point. One of the three 265 foot towers that made up the ride mysteriously collapsed in January of 2002. Luckily, the park was closed for winter, and no one was injured. Park staff decided to demolish the ride later that year for safety.
