It wasn’t long before Phil Robertson got caught up in a scandal. He made headlines after a video from the past surfaced that showed him promoting child marriages. He said that girls should get married when they’re as young as 15. He rationalized this by saying he started dating his wife, Miss Kay, when she was 14. He said in the clip: “Look, you wait ’til they get to be 20 years old, the only picking that’s going to take place is your pocket. You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16. They’ll pick your ducks.”

While these statements came across as extremely controversial to many of the show’s viewers, surprisingly, it’s not the reason that the show was canceled.
