I have to admit that this is some chilling footage. It reminds us of how dangerous it is to text and drive at the same time. Not only are you putting your own life in danger but the lives of others and that’s not right. Unfortunately, this story doesn’t end well and our hearts go out to the families of those affected by this tragic event.

Watch as this truck swerves just moments before hitting a van full of elderly people.

A witness said he was driving home with his girlfriend when they noticed someone driving erratically.

“He kept going off the road and into oncoming traffic and he just kept doing that,” said Kuchler, who first shared the account of what happened with the San Antonio Express-News.

They followed the truck for about 15 minutes and called the local sheriff’s office saying, “they needed to get him off the road before he hit somebody.”

The driver was a 20-year-old male named Jack Dillon Young, of Leakey.

“He said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I was texting.’ I said, ‘Son, do you know what you just did?’ He said, ‘I’m sorry. I’m sorry,’” Kuchler recalled.

Texas does not currently have any laws that specify the ban of texting while driving. I think it’s about time they reconsider bringing it to legislation.

We can all learn a valuable lesson from this tragic story and that is to not drive if you have something that is distracting you.
