It’s an issue everyone has something to say about. It can cause a lot of debate and controversy.
Is spanking a good or a bad thing, and should we discipline are children with it?
We’re not trying to throw a controversial issue in your face, but some new information has been released that could change your view on the issue.
Researchers from the University of Texas in Austin, and the University of Michigan have put together a report confirming that spanking can have a negative effect on your child mentally. The effects can last years!
Regardless if you’re a supporter of this kind of discipline or not, it’s hard to argue against this recent study.
The study was published in the Journal of Family Psychology. It followed 160,000 children over a 50-year span, making it the most complete analysis to date on this troubling form of punishment.
Perhaps, unsurprisingly, the author of the study, Elizabeth Gershoff and Andrew Grogan Kaylor, gathered together the outcomes and found that now, as adults, the group of children who were spanked as children were more likely to display anti-social behaviours and suffer from mental health problems.
Is what your child did really worth punishing them with something that could do that to them?
