This old horse had two ears missing. Bubbles lost them due to frostbite.
All he wanted was to live out the rest of his days in a quiet pasture, where he could eat as much grass as he wanted, and soak up the sunshine.
Unfortunately, the horse found himself in a ‘kill lot’ in Mexico, where unwanted horses and donkeys were rounded up for slaughter.
As far as his owners were concerned, that was it for the old horse. He was as good as dead.
However, the horse’s story didn’t end there.
Volunteers from Becky’s Hope Horse Rescue unintentionally came to his aid.
The Texas-based organization adopts, rehabilitates, and then finds homes for abandoned and neglected horses and donkeys.
The kind group of volunteers happened upon Bubbles kill lot intending to rescue nine mini donkeys.
But Bubbles wasn’t about to the stay behind.
“This skinny grey gelding walked straight up to our trailer, past the gates, disregarding the commands of the kill lot employees,” Becky’s Hope posted on Facebook.
“He was intent that this was his ride out of there. We stood there staring as this old guy with crumbled ears from frostbite waited patiently for the group of mini donkeys to catch up so he could jump on the ‘freedom trailer’ out of there.”
