Image what it must be like to be chained up for your most of your life? Thankfully, humans don’t usually have to imagine such a thing but for this mountain lion from a Peruvian circus, it was an everyday reality. He was chained to beds, trucks and whatever else was handy to chain him to. However, thanks to Animal Defenders International (ADI) this mountain lion was rescued from a life in chains. The lion’s name is Mufasa and he was the last wild animal to be rescued from a Peruvian circus. The stand-off between the circus and the ADI was so intense that the riot police were even called into the situation. Here’s the dramatic story:
Once Mufasa was in safe hands, he was cut free for the first time since being with the circus.
Mufasa was moved to a natural habitat in the Peruvian forest where he can roam free again.
It’s obvious that this animal was not prepared for the wild and so ADI made him a special enclosure inside the Peruvian forest. In this safe space, he was cared for and in touch with his natural world once again.
He only managed to live for a few months during his life of freedom due to the mistreatment that he suffered in his former circus life. He was also suffering from kidney failure and other age-related issues. That is why we are all grateful to ADI for allowing him the opportunity to experience a better life during the end of his own. Mufasa passed away in December of 2015 but before that day, he was happy and roaming free!
Check out Mufasa in his natural environment!
The curiosity is back in his eyes once again.
You can easily see the difference between the first photo of him in chains and the one above.
