When a child is raised around an abusive father, the long term effects can be severe. However, this is a tragic story that has turned into one of inspiration. Unfortunately, the abuse has to be endured before it can be overcome and in this case, an 8-year-old boy was facing another one of his father’s outrages towards his mother and so he did what he usually does – hide in the basement with his little sister. However, this time, he remembered something that he was told in school and that was how to dial 9-1-1 and when he did he left the phone off the hook. Afterward, he went upstairs to help protect his mom from his father’s abuse when the cops showed up but not before he physically through the both of them through a wall in their home.
His father was taken away in the cop car and his mom and him were brought to the hospital. The cop that showed up to his house was now at the hospital and he was giving his little sister a teddy bear and taking a report from him and his mom. Afterward, they went back home.
His mother finally did have the courage to leave his father after that and life moved along and an opportunity opened up for the young boy to play on a local soccer team. On the first day of practice, he noticed that the cop that was at him home and at the hospital that night was now the coach for his soccer team. He also noticed that he wasn’t treating him any differently than the other kids even though the cop knew who he was.
Later, he went up to the cop and asked if one day he could be a cop like him and he said yes and that he would be a good cop. Years later, he became a cop and he now looks back on those days that he spent as a scared kid and how one cop not only saved him and his family but ended up inspiring him to become a cop himself.
